Our Story

A logging town, a one-stop shop

Yosemite started as a logging camp in the 1870s. The railroad that built it only ran for ten years. The town outlasted it by over a century.

The railroad years

Ten years of rail, over a century of town

Yosemite got its start in the 1870s as a logging operation owned by Eugene Zimmerman, a Cincinnati businessman. In 1886, the Cincinnati & Green River Railway connected Yosemite to the main rail lines at Kings Mountain in Lincoln County. The line was built in stages: first a tram road, then narrow gauge track, then standard gauge, each upgrade meant to move more timber, faster.

The railroad ran for ten years. It shut down in 1896. Yosemite kept going. The post office that opened in 1883 didn't close until September 2011, well over a century after the last log train left town.

There isn't a marked trail or a standing depot to point to today; what's left is the name, the town, and the people still here.

The Story of Yosemite

The mark we carry

The locomotive on our logo isn't decoration. It's the same railroad that put this town on the map: a ten-year operation that gave Yosemite its start, and a piece of history that outlasted the tracks by a hundred years.

We figure a one-stop ought to carry that same staying power. Show up, do the work, take care of folks who come through.

The One Stop today

The town's hub, run by family

Yosemite One Stop is Larry Luttrell's place, run with family and a small crew that knows most folks by name. Larry's behind the counter most days: ringing up fuel, boxing up pizza, or walking a neighbor out back to look at a storage unit.

The counter is where the town catches up: who's hauling hay, who's building on, what's for supper. If there's something you need that we don't carry, say so at the register. More than a few of these shelves got stocked that way.

Out back, the smoker runs low and slow for the pulled pork and brisket, and the pizzas are made fresh to order.
